Ah, the old Silver set. I miss it.
This show was far less memorable due to the rather sedate audience, always the way in these large, fully seated venues. We thought this was the worst of it but little did we know what was coming. Next up was the Santa Barbara Bowl and boy did that audience suck, big time. Most people were sitting through the show and weren't singing along but still somehow made a lot of noise during the encore break, although as always there were some people down the front showing the band some love and i think that was got them through it. What probably also didnt help was the fact the SB bowl has an incredibly strict noise limit and we also were not permitted to use any of our pyro or confetti effects during the show.
At least we got to see the New York Dolls today
But what can you do, battle onwards and upwards. After a day in LA and an apperance on the Yo Gabba Gabba tv show(with some very odd costumes indeed, keep an eye out on youtube for the performance) it was off to Irvine for a show at the Bren Events Center in UCI. This was always going to be an unusual one as it was quite a small venue but it turned out to be in the top 3 shows of the tour so far (Red Rocks and Boston being up there also)
I was impressed with how the audience were able to stay in a straight line all the way down the sides

The audience were on fire from minute one and never let except for when this happened. There's no barricade there, just a painted line on the floor.
The band thought someone had fallen down and wanted to make sure it was ok but it turns out someone had vomited in the audience, hence the big hole developing in the crowd.
It proved to an interesting night with Brandon managing to somehow forget the words to read my mind.
So after that we were off to the Hollywood Bowl, which is a very illustrious venue nestled in the hills just north of Hollywood Blvd.

Everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Frank Sinatra has played here at some point and it certainly brings out the celeb guestlist with the Hilton sisters, some of the cast of Heroes and the friendliest man in music Dave Grohl turning out for the evening.
We've been making it a daily project in some of the more unusual venues recently to get Brandon out into the crowd a little more where possible and i think this one worked quite well indeed.
Also tonight the band had the pleasure of sharing the bill with the Psychadelic Furs and were able to duet together on their biggest hit "Pretty In Pink" but not before we had a Kanye lookalike storm the stage (Thanks Jimmy Kimmel)
Next day we were off to San Diego for a day off and after a little wander around town and seeing some unusual signs such as these 2 it was off to see Weezer play

And the prize for strangest/stupidest haircut of the tour goes to.................this guy

If you were going bald like that, wouldn't you just shave the rest of it instead of growing a mullet to go with it

Anyway, as always Weezer rocked with an hour long greatest hits set and then Blink 182 came out and beat the venue into averageness. Although they are a decent band on CD, they are a very dull average live band and try cover it up with fart jokes and jokes about doing your mom, just a little difficult to take from a bunch of 34 - 37 year olds. And Travis Barker seems to be trying to take the most ridiculous thing in the world (The Drum Solo) to a whole new level with this quite frankly absurd flying drum kit routine.
Oh well, "Style" over substance i guess!!

I just want to say thanks for a very interesting blog and for all the Youtube links which I will look at later. Abster x
I love your blog and read it every time you post!! I'm a huge Killers fan and love your take on things
Thanks so much!!
Great blog as usual. I'm sorry the band didn't think the Mt. View crowd was lively enough. I was in Section 201 and we were plenty enthused. Everyone stood up from note 1 and didn't sit down once. We were singing and dancing. I'm 5'4" so I could barely see over everyone's heads even on my tiptoes, but I enjoyed every moment. Please let the guys know much we loved the show.
I just want to say a huge thanks for the amazing blog! I'm an enormous Killers fan...well I'm not actually enormous, but I like them enormously. I saw them as often as I could manage whilst they were in the UK and Ireland and am really missing being able to go to the gigs now you're all across the water, but your blog is really keeping me going. Its great to keep up with the band and what you're all doing, you put a great spin on things and make it a witty, unmissable read....so I guess I just want to saw thanks for the awesome blog and long may it continue. Huge respect also for all of the fantastic work that you and the rest of the crew do behind the scenes, it must be really hard work, but you do a brilliant job. Anyway thanks again and I look forward to the next installment x
Lol, the Jimmy Kimmel appearance was brilliant! Looking forward to the Yo gabba gabba episode, this odd costumes thing really intrigues me. lmao! Do you have a clue on when they're airing it? X
im loving your blogs they are so great thanks for finding the time amonst all those flights buses and every thing else in between hope all goes well for the rest of the tour take care hope you come back to oz real soon xo
To anonymous 7.45 PM poster, I guess the band (and crew) experienced it differently than we in the audience did, which is unfortunate. My friends and I were at the Mountain View show as well. In section 101 (2nd row - Mark's side) and we (like you) were up the entire night giving it our all dancing, jumping, singing and screaming. As was the row behind us. Well, as far as I could tell from the few times I shot a glance backwards. Truth be told, I was paying more attention to what was happening in front of me, of course (and not what the rest of the audience was up to) ;-)
The show flew by and I was sorry to see it end :-(
In July I was front row at the 2nd u2 show in Amsterdam and if someone were to ask me which show I thought was better (the u2 or the Killers), I wouldn't be able to choose.
I'm sorry the band didn't like the Mountain View crowd. It was the best show in my life (I was in the second row!!), and I thought the audience was great too. I am a huge Killers fan, and I can attest to the fact that the Mountain View show was much better than Las Vegas.
I loved ur blog I wa actually at the Santa Barbara bowl concert and trust me I felt the same way u felt. Luckily I wa one of the few ppl in front row singing and dancing and acting like a fool for my fave band. Half of the ppl there wer idiots and old farts who didn't deserve to be there. Tht also happened to be one of my most expensive wknds ever :(. Next time pls do me a favor and skip Santa Barbara go to the rose bowl in Pasadena :) two mins from my hous :D!!!!
